Privacy

Short version: we can't read what you write, and we don't collect anything about you.

What you write

Everything you write in Keel is encrypted on your device with your passphrase before it is saved. It is stored only in your browser on that device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. We have no copy and no way to read it.

Your passphrase

Your passphrase never leaves your device. We can't reset it or recover it. If you forget it, your entries can't be opened by anyone, including us.

What we collect

Nothing. Keel has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no cookies. It loads no fonts, scripts or images from other companies. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs of page requests (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability, as any website host does.

Backups

A backup file is a copy of your encrypted notebook. It stays encrypted, so it is useless without your passphrase. Where you keep it is up to you.

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete everything removes your notebook from this device for good. Clearing your browser's data for this site does the same.

What Keel is not

Keel is a private notebook. It is not therapy, a diagnosis, a crisis service or legal advice, and it never labels anyone. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number. In the US you can call 988 (crisis) or 1-800-799-7233 (National Domestic Violence Hotline). Other countries: findahelpline.com.
